Why Don't You Come Up and See Us Sometime...

Thanks to all who visited Aquaneering in Booth 101 at the 11th International Conference on Zebrafish Development and Genetics in Madison, Wisconsin from June 24 to 28, 2014. We enjoyed demonstrating several new products, including the Build As You Grow Rack, the slide-out drawer for the 96-well plate for zebrafish, and the AquaCensus lab management software.

We All Scream for T-shirts!

We have been asked many times to print t-shirts using the Art of Science images! This year, contest finalists will be featured on LinkedIn for a popular vote to choose images for a fund-raising t-shirt. Proceeds from the t-shirts will go into a scholarship fund for first-time meeting attendees for the Zebrafish Husbandry Workshop held at Aquaculture America and for the International Zebrafish Development and Genetics meetings held annually in the United States.

Ten-Year Anniversary of the Zebrafish Husbandry Workshop at Aquaculture America

2014 marked the official ten-year anniversary of the Zebrafish Husbandry Workshop sponsored by Aquaneering at the World Aquaculture Society Aquaculture America meeting in Seattle, Washington. Although several more informal get-togethers took place in prior years, the first “official” workshop took place in New Orleans on January 18th, 2005 and featured four hours of talks and five speakers (including Brendan Delbos, now Aquaneering’s Eastern Region Sales and Technical rep!). This year, the session covered over thirteen hours and featured 23 speakers. The attendance consistently topped 85 each day, a workshop record.
There were a number of “firsts” this year:

  • A tour of a local zebrafish facility, Seattle Children’s Hospital, was offered on the end of the first day. Feedback from participants was very positive as it gave them the chance to exchange ideas and compare notes in an actual lab setting.
  • CEUs (Continuing Education Unit) were offered for workshop attendance.
  • The Zebrafish Husbandry Association (ZHA) initiated an annual “Stewardship” award for individuals contributing to the husbandry community. Mark Francis, the president of Aquaneering, was the first recipient for founding and continuing to sponsor the workshop.

We eagerly look forward to the 11th annual workshop on February 19 - 22, 2015 in New Orleans!

Mark Francis, President of Aquaneering, receiving the award for Stewardship to the Zebrafish Husbandry Community from Carrie Barton, President of ZHA.   Over 85 attendees and 23 speakers were present at the Zebrafish Husbandry Workshop in 2014.   A tour of the Seattle Children's Aquatics Lab with lab manager Jerry Ament received very positive feedback.
