Big Impact: Aquaneering’s eRack Brings Science to Life in the Classroom
Building Knowledge from the Ground Up
In an age where innovation is shaping the future of medicine, technology, and conservation, early access to scientific discovery is more vital than ever. Aquaneering LLC—a global leader in aquatic housing systems—is making waves with a new campaign that bridges the gap between professional research and the classroom: The eRack “Small Tanks, Big Impact” Initiative.
This groundbreaking effort is designed to bring real-world science into the hands of students by donating fully functional zebrafish housing systems to educational institutions across the United States. By equipping schools with state-of-the-art aquatic technology, Aquaneering aims to empower a new generation of scientists—starting from middle school to college-level programs—with the tools to ask questions, conduct experiments, and explore the incredible potential of aquatic research.
What is the eRack?
At the heart of this initiative is the eRack, a compact, all-in-one zebrafish housing system designed specifically for educational and outreach environments. Unlike large-scale laboratory racks used in biomedical facilities, the eRack is plug-and-play, user-friendly, and space-efficient, making it the perfect entry point for educators and students to engage with aquatic models.
Despite its small footprint, the eRack doesn’t compromise on quality. Each unit includes:
• Integrated filtration and dosing systems
• Durable, transparent tanks for easy observation
• Simple setup for classroom integration
• Optional educational support materials and guides
In other words, the eRack brings professional-grade research capabilities to the classroom in a form that’s approachable, scalable, and exciting.
Why Zebrafish?
Zebrafish are more than just tiny swimmers—they are powerful models for human health research. Their transparent embryos and rapid development make them ideal for studying everything from genetics and developmental biology to heart regeneration and cancer therapies.
Used in thousands of labs worldwide, zebrafish have become essential in uncovering insights into conditions like heart disease, neurodegenerative disorders, and immune responses. With the eRack system, students don’t just read about these breakthroughs—they can participate in the same kinds of experiments that drive them.
Empowering Education Through Real Science
The mission behind the Small Tanks, Big Impact campaign is clear: make science accessible, engaging, and hands-on. According to Aquaneering President Sandeep Patel, the goal is to "spark curiosity and make real-world science more accessible to young minds."
By integrating eRack systems into educational programs that promote inquiry, mentorship, and creative problem-solving, Aquaneering is not just donating equipment—it’s investing in the scientific leaders of tomorrow.
Each donation package includes:
* One fully functional eRack system
* All necessary tanks and filtration components
* Guidance and support from Aquaneering’s expert team
First Stop: SeaWorld San Diego
The first eRack system has already found a home at SeaWorld San Diego, where it will be part of the Education Department’s Behind-the-Scenes Tour, Jewels of the Sea: The Jellyfish Experience. There, guests and students alike will learn how zebrafish and other aquatic species are used in scientific research—highlighting the critical role these creatures play in protecting our oceans and our health.
This installation marks the beginning of a broader campaign to inspire young learners and showcase the practical value of aquatic science.
Who Can Apply?
Aquaneering is inviting educators, school districts, outreach organizations, and STEM programs across the U.S. to apply for the eRack donation. Programs that are selected will demonstrate a commitment to:
* Promoting student-led inquiry
* Mentoring students in hands-on scientific practices
* Using zebrafish or other aquatic models to teach biomedical or environmental science
How to Apply:
1. Submit a proposal (500–750 words) explaining how the eRack will support your educational goals and classroom activities.
2. Optional materials such as lesson plans, photos, or videos are encouraged to strengthen your application.
3. Apply online at www.aquaneering.com/erack
